Good podcast, bad host
I am making my way through the back catalog listening to any episode that catches my attention (~70% of them) and overall the podcast is definitely worth your time, the only drawback being Knight himself. Not taking it too seriously sets an appropriate and welcome tone but his ‘Aussification’ of historical conversations is cringey at best and detracts from the experience. Aside from that, England and the English clearly reside in Knight’s head rent free, he takes any and every chance to deride them and I’m not sure where in Melbourne he is from, but his views are clearly through an inner-Northern suburbs lens that is not consistent with his other views. He congratulates ancient leaders on their conquests of neighbouring lands (where they did unspeakable things to the people there) but as soon as the English do similar, it is the worst thing in the world. Not agreeing with the treatment of the indigenous when England colonised Australia is understandable, but it was just human nature and something that has been done throughout history by people from every corner of the globe.
