Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Merle joined the FBI in Washington after high school. He moved back to Mississippi where he earned bachelor and master’s degrees in Criminal Justice at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
In the 1970’s he went to work for the newly formed Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN) and became the first Captain in the Bureau. He is a graduate of the DEA Academy and the New England Institute of Management. While working undercover, he had many close encounters with drug dealers and organized crime.
During his career, he started the most successful inmate-led prison ministry in the history of the Federal Bureau of Prison and has impacted thousands of lives with his book series.
Merle signs books across America, and speaks to churches, schools, civic clubs, book clubs, and library groups. He has interviewed on radio and TV stations across the country and around the world to warn of the dangers and darkness of this rented world and to tell of his journey to the peace and purpose of Jesus Christ.
