“I really like the majority of the episodes. I am actually going to use some of the literary techniques with my middle school students (Lectio Divina with Lord of the Flies!!).
Sadly the quality of the discussions varies. The hosts are very intelligent but can sometimes slide into their 'social justice warrior' mode that distracts from the content. The White Privilege episode is one case where it would have been a more effective discussion if they explained it as Magic Privilege and how that can be mirrored in the idea of white privilege. For instance, Ron simply accepts all things magic because he has never lived as a muggle without access to magic. Hermione and Harry find House elves, moving staircases, and magical objects completing household chores (not to mention flying broomsticks) as amazing – perhaps appreciating them a bit more. This was not really discussed – instead the color of Harry’s countenance was the discussion.
Again, 90% awesomeness, just wish some of the politic was left out.”Read full review »
