“The story is well produced, engaging, and thought provoking. My take away from it, however, may be different from what the producer intended. Yes, Lester apparently killed a young girl, although little detailed information about the killing is provided - Who was the victim? How and why was she murdered? What took place at Lester's trial? On the other hand, Lester's walk away from prison seems to vindicate, in a strange way, the views of the humanist prison warden who was in charge of Lester's lockdown but who championed the rehabilitation of prison inmates. For decades after Lester walked away - it seems unlikely that he is still alive - he doesn't seem to have killed anyone, robbed anyone, beaten up anyone. Indeed, Lester never seems to have ever been arrested. What little we know of him was that he was a hard worker and a surrogate father and positive role model for his girlfriend's son, who is now a successful architect. Does't all of this sound like rehabilitation? What's is actually more chilling for me than Lester still being on the loose are the the revenge-tinged comments by a number of former law enforcement personnel, who want to track Lester down and bring him back dead or alive. Frontier justice apparently isn't dead in Ohio.”Read full review »
