McKinsey & other top firms must constantly increase profitability by increasing the complexity & size of their projects. Disruptive upstarts outbid them in lower "value" business, and constantly push upwards.
There is a difference between steel mills and consulting though. The work that McKinsey does, is done purely by their employees. The client knows that too. When their employees leave to partner with the disruptor... the change can be hastened, especially if the disruptor figures out how to assemble teams.”
