“I have been into the boardgame hobby on a serious basis for about ten years. Over time, I have gradually learned to appreciate the heavier game. By heavy, I don't necessarily just mean more complex, heavy is often a combination of factors. Complexity, depth, level of thinking required and plethora of choices and strategies available are all factors that apply. Also, over that time the boardgame hobby has grown. The number of games available means that it is impossible for one reviewer to keep up. So, naturally, the media and reviewing of games has started to segment. Some podcasts focus on party games and lighter games, others middle of the road and in some cases focus on just one game. Heavy Cardboard, as its name suggests are, as best as I can tell, the only Podcast that focusses on 'heavier' games.
Why should you listen? Well, the hosts know their subject but in contrast to other popular podcasts are also humble enough to realise that they are always learning. They also demonstrate a passion for their hobby that is essential considering heavy games can tend to be dry themes. They make the subject matter an interesting listen. Their focus on one primary game per episode means that the information is in-depth and not a 'magazine show'. I find other podcasts have become more 'magazine show' as a reaction to the expanding hobby, but sadly that dilutes the conversation needed for heavier games. The audio quality is excellent, a feature I praise because it is hard to achieve and annoying when it's not.
All around this is a top notch show. Informed, entertaining, vibrant and fun to listen to. Keep up the good work guys!”Read full review »

“Finally a podcast devoted to the heavier side of gaming. While there are several good podcasts devoted to board gaming in general, this is the best one for fans of Le Havre, Vinhos, Tzolk'in, Kanban, etc.
As a huge euro fan, I'm glad I found this.”Read full review »
