Best thing since History of Rome
This is the best history podcast since Mike Duncan’s outstanding History of Rome podcast. Lots of podcasters have modeled their podcasts on the History of Rome ever since, but this one is so well done it feels like a continuation. This podcast makes my commute one of the most enjoyable parts of my day and launches me on all sorts of little podcast induced wikipedia reading sessions during the day as my brain churns over the events discussed in the podcast. Caveats: 1. If you’re not already familiar, brush up on German geography—Saxony (historical, not the modern state), Franconia, Swabia, vs Bavaria, etc. 2. The podcast starts with the Ottonians (9th century) so if you’re looking for the events of Netflix’s “the Barbarians” check History of Rome, and if your looking for Frederick the Great or Otto von Bismarck make yourself some schnitzel, pour a beer, and have a seat. This is the right place but we’re not there yet.

Just found it some days ago and realised that I have been binge listening to it. A good format, enough details but not too in depth, and very well performed and edited.
