“This podcast is a worthy addition to the Mike Duncan and David Crowther family of history podcasts. Additionally, Dirk employs a bold and nuanced approach to this narrative - he admits and embraces the fact that the subject matter of German history itself has a difficult history, having been used for various political propaganda campaigns, most notoriously in the twentieth century. Nonetheless, Dirk’s narrative tries to practice a disciplined historiography by abound what C.S. Lewis and David Crowther call “chronological snobbery”, and instead of endeavors to understand the past on its own terms and in its own context. It is a surprisingly excellent podcast, an excellent addition to growing tapestry of anglophone historical podcasts.”
