13.25 stars - here's what's missing
Love the show. I have been delving in homekit products since way back (all lights smart now, lock, thermostat, sprinkler, smoke and CO2 alarms, water sensors, blinds, most plugs). What would make this show 14 or at least 13.5 is: 1) having a face off between homekit partners on ease of adding accessories. This is my number one pain point - adding accessories, whether through the partner native app, or whether directly through homekit. Hue is pretty good for example. Ikea is probably the worst (though I've finally figured out the issue). Wemo plugs used to be rock solid - but then they started user accounts, which messed up the older plugs that didn't come with a hk code. My one iDevices plug has never needed to be touched ever and I've had it for years. 2) having a top 3 showdown in each category once a week and then keep referring to the various listings (plugs, cameras, lights, thermostats, etc) 3) a discussion on mixing and mashing - for example I use lutron cassette for lights where I just want white dimmable lights. Hue for colour and then colour themes. And just recently I got a meross non dimmer switch because I didn't care about diming in the guest bathroom. But I kinda wish it was all one product line - right now I have four different looking switches (hue switches next to the traditional old switches, lutron switches and meross switches). Because meross is so cheap compared to lutron and even compared to the lutron hue dimmer cover switch thing). But meross needs a neutral wire. 4) also, why do homekit partners not have both a neutral wire required AND a version that uses a hub. Because I understand that that's the issue - no hub means neutral required to power the WiFi capability? I may be wrong. 5) surpise me.Read full review »

The problem for me is that it comes across as very authoritarian, but I frequently find that it is not quite accurate. Given the power of their position, they really should check their facts more before they say something. I still listen, but now I check everything!

Andrew and Stephen have to be one of the great duos of all time. I mean Batman and Robin, Bert and Ernie, Mario and Luigi or even Chandler and Joey have nothing on these two. Andrew’s little intros for Stephen are hilarious in each episode, and the banter throughout makes the show fun, whilst...Read full review »
