I don't even homeschool and I listen!
I found HSIRL several years ago when I started to homescool my 2 children. I will be honest and say that while we are Christian, I initially I thought they were religious fanatics. But I was so drawn by their humor and acknowledgment of all of the beauties and warts of homeschooling that I just kept listening and binged on previous episodes. I found their life and parenting philosophies to be very in-line with my own. I was very moved by their testimonies to faith and how their story has evolved. As someone who had been uneasy in both Christian AND secular homeschooling circles who all claim to have the "right" way to do things- I found this podcast to be very centering dor me. Some of their other podcast recommendations and guests on their show (White Horse Inn, Redeemer Church Modesto sermons, "Hopeshifting" and many, many more!) have truly been a blessing to me. There were a few people in my life over the past 5 years who have really pointed me back to what matters and what it means to be "Christian" and I must say that Kendra and Fletch were 2 of them! My kids are now in a private school. It was a rough transition (for me!-not them as much!) and I was sad to give up some of my homeschool resources and traditions. HSIRL though has remained incredibly relevant to my life and I find that many of your episodes would definitely appeal to a larger audience. Even the episodes that are specifially about homeschool topics also have great ideas and resources that could be used in any family. Fletch has pointed out that he is a fan of music and culture that is not traditionally "Christian" and that sometimes that is what God puts on your heart so that you can have chances to be in relationships with people in all areas of life and hopefully over time be a witness to them. (Like Fletch wearing his Bob MArley T-shirt to a homeschool convention. -And actually, I would argue that Bob also practiced a Christian faith that advocated spirit over letter of the law). Nobody will ever read this whole review excpet maybe for Fletch and Kendra. And I just want to thank you for your encouragement and for just being a blessing to so many people. I try to channel your graceful and humorous outlook. Keep up the good work!Read full review »

Witty and insightful. We listen to it as a family every time!

There are a few helpful suggestions in these podcasts. However, these two spend so much time patting themselves on the back, trying to say "cool" things, pandering for sponsors, and selling products, that I feel most of the time is wasted. (I find myself fast forwarding through the...Read full review »

Am planning to start homeschooling my rising 4th grader next year and stumbled upon this podcast. It's helpful, interesting and funny. I've already listened to several episodes. Lots of refreshing insights from a spiritual perspective. They seem centered on the gospel instead of going to...Read full review »
