Much needed overview of Jamaican music history
This is the third instalment of How Jamaica Conquered The World and continues in the excellent manner of episodes 1 & 2. Coming from Birmingham, we have a large Jamaican community that have played a huge role in how our city has evolved over the last 40 or so years no more so with Jamaican influence on our culture, particularly music. From the Blues Parties, Sound System clashes, clubs like the Monte Carlo and The Porsche Club, to Beverley Nappier-Barrett and Lloyd Blakes Hummingbird, to bands like the mighty Steel Pulse, UB40, Eclipse and countless others, to record shops like Don Christies, Summit and of course pirate radio station like PCRL. And what the Jamaican community has don in Brum, it's done all over the world. There is so much more to Jamaica then just Bob Marley (no matter how great he is!). Looking forward to more episodes please!Read full review »
