Desperately needed
The crisis of modernity is the widespread sense of meaningless, the root cause of which is the reduction of everything into just particles. Owen Barfield said that 70+ years ago, and you don't need me to tell you that the crisis endures as perniciously as ever today. Bart Campolo seems to have made it his purpose to tackle this sense of purposelessness. Interestingly, he starts from the perspective that, yes, it is all just particles, nothing more, nothing supernatural. I don't fully agree (I'm a spiritual agnostic), but it's nonetheless a perspective that is desperately needed for the many people -- especially but not exclusively athiests -- struggling with what it means to live well in a seemingly incidental universe.Read full review »
