Incredibly helpful and informative
I’m currently illustrating a book that takes place in rural Cambodia, and I wanted to get a picture of what Cambodia’s “origin story” is, so I looked up “history podcast about Cambodia.” This was one of the first that came up, and I’m so glad I found it. Lachlan has become my daily companion as I illustrate this simple story about a small Khmer girl who wrestles with inner fears and worries. I think about all the things that Cambodians have had to worry about and fear for so many years, as more and more layers are revealed through this podcast. I pray that they will indeed find freedom one day, though I feel pretty confident that a government system won’t be the answer to that prayer. :/ Anyway, I’ve learned so much from this podcast, not only about Cambodia but about communism and the Vietnam war, and lots of other things that I’ve had a vague notion about but could not have described before. Thank you, Lachlan, for your thoughtful and descriptive podcast! I feel like you’ve made Cambodia “real,” whereas before it was sort of just an un-illuminated blurry spot on my inner map of the world.

The depth and detail of this podcast is only comparable to some of Dan Carlin’s work. The topic is compelling. For a critical piece of modern history that is generally ignored or misunderstood, it is incredibly well researched and presented.

Decided to listen as preparation for a visit to Cambodia and have found this fascinating. Strongly recommended for anyone with an interest in Cambodia and its place in world history.
