“I do not like the “devil's advocate” non-native plant perspective in the last episode. I don't believe any kind of gardening is good. It’s not a good thing to plant invasives or plants that need to be maintained. We die, move, etc, but they usually don't. We often can't retain them for *their* lifetimes. Do I make mistakes? Yes. Do I have exotics? Yes, I do. But it's a process, and when we know better, we do better. It's not about religiosity or ideology, and it’s not problematic to say that native plants are better on multiple levels. Indeed, invasive plants are a problem. A “both sides” approach to this is ridiculous. My little creek has non-native sweet peas everywhere. I think people would plant them less if they were more aware. It's not shaming people to state that planting invasive plants contributes to the problem. If you want to plant them after knowing that I can't stop you, I don't have to avoid the facts or pretend it's all the same for someone else's benefit. All gardens and gardeners should try to do their best to prevent this. I listen to podcasts to learn more about ecology. Full stop. People listening to podcasts likely are more interested in native gardens and ecology because they want to know! They are not just looking for the most beautiful buildings to purchase and put on the ground. I haven't stopped listening yet, but it might not be a good fit.”Read full review »
