Excellent podcast concept
In looking to learn about investing a few years ago, I came across Phil Town's first book. I generally like simplicity so the ideas sounded interesting, but I was wary of someone promoting his business on the back of such relatively simple advice. To be honest he kind of came across as a snake oil salesman (with his advantage being the requirement of a long time horizon to prove whether or not I could successfully follow the method). In some regards, this podcast proves my concerns correct; it isn't always as easy as he made it seem, and he's regularly backtracking or contradicting some of the things he say earlier. However, the real value in this podcast is Danielle. I'd like to think that she's very much like me: young, smart, skeptical, and willing to dig down until she finds a place where the pitch makes sense. She asks the very questions I would ask if I also had weeks of access to a so-called guru. And I have to give great credit to Phil for agreeing to show that he truly believes in his advice (and isn't totally driven by his own ego). With her being his lawyer-daughter, he knows he can't BS her or brush her concerns aside. She's not just a client; he has to deal with her for the rest of his life. I get the feeling this level of authenticity isn't common in this field, and regardless of the actual advice, I appreciate the opportunity of the warts-and-all approach to help me figure it out on my own.Read full review »

For Phil to explain investing strategy of rule 1 to someone who has never invested and explain how to do it is genius. Well worth your time to listen and then listen again.

Great job - good introduction to the value investing style. Love the father - daughter Q and A style format. Feels like we have a secret insight into a personal mentoring session ..
