VIkings raiders or men ben on revenge?
I like the presentation but I have one question why the lean towards the portrayal of the monasteries and the religious in the way you have? Is it not true you could take the first half of this podcast and replace the words Viking or pagan with christian crusader (although they did come later so that would not be accurate of course) - or monastery with settlement (in Scandinavia) and describe the brutality that Charlemagne exacted on the Norse who would not convert to christianity? I think the Vikings set out to hit Ireland and Britain for all the reasons you said and more - namely that of revenge against a christian empire that broke open a hornets nest when it went north and as you said expand the church's authority. There is no smoke without fire and there are two sides to every story. There is also no arguing that some VIking warriors soon liked the look of the gold and girls they saw in these islands so they came back and eventually stayed, but I would proffer the reasons they left home was not just to rob so called sacred places of christianity for the "Holy" Roman Empire destroyed many a Norse temple & "sacred" place long before any VIking appeared on these shores. Keep up the good work but it might be good to give both sides or all sides beyond the Gaelic and religious.Read full review »

I'm docking a star for the low volume of the pods, I've to use a program to increase the volume, as I can't hear it...Read full review »
