A Story of What We've Lost
Dierdre Gardner, back in her hometown, is an amateur podcaster trying to preserve the legacy of local musician Wim Faros. Her excitement about Faros is palpable and often near-hysterical as she recalls the musician's final concert, which she had preserved on a cassette tape. IMAS is a story about following obsession, about rediscovering your childhood passions, about connecting with others, and about loss. Rosemary Hills is a golf resort community in decline. Dierdre Gardner has been drifting, dissatisfied with what she has been doing. Gardner and her ailing mother have a tender but strained relationship that strengthens through the shared memories of Faros' music. As you listen to Dierdre's character calm down (somewhat) from her overblown first episode, you start to piece bits of story together. Was Wim Faros a superstar in this universe, or an indie musician that no one appreciates? What is Gardner's connection with Faros? As a musician, the performance of reconstructing songs from scraps is very poignant for me. The characters' struggle to get a song just right is realistic (if sped up for the sake of the listener), and the overpowering release when things come together brings tears of relief. If you've ever been rooting through your old childhood junk and found the relic of a forgotten passion... if you remember describing a song or a show with hyperbolic praise... if you suddenly remember how much you've lost... you might connect with this podcast.Read full review »

I have to start by saying I am an enthusiastic fan of Welcome to Nightvale. And I enjoy Alice Isn’t Dead. But this is just not good. It isn’t entertaining and it isn’t anywhere near as highly produced as their other podcasts.
