A reminder of who we, the people, really are
John Meacham has created a podcast that is a balm for our badly bruised American spirit. So far I have listened to RFK’s speech in Indianapolis the day MLK was murdered. I have watched that video on occasion in the past to hear a man who knew sorrow down to his bones recite the words of Aeschylus about grief. President Obama’s speech at Mother Emanuel church after the massacre of a pastor and other church members in prayer was one I didn’t pay much attention to at the time. But the magic of Meacham is in the way he discusses individual sections of the speech set in the context of the time it was given. It makes me feel as if I had attended a play. Next up is Meghan McCain, a woman with whom I disagree with politically, but nonetheless share a great admiration for her father. Her love and devotion to him is a testament to his character and love of country. Please, please continue this series!

More reviews of It Was Said
More than just a replay of speeches. The speeches themselves are a snapshot, framed with the sentiment of the time, placed in the context of what came before and what has come to pass since. These episodes allow you to feel history.

Whatever Jon will do, I will love. Just his voice alone calms and soothes me.

Love these guys for doing this. I’ve watched Jon on “Morning Joe” and others for a while. Can’t think of anyone better to be apart of this. We need some decency in our lives.
