As opaque as that title seems, scholarly consensus by the most discerning and subtlety cunning of modern fandom to mean,, pardon my translation … “It’s a war between the elves and Sauron”, which is out of nowhere, right. As for the earlier confrontation, “War for the sake of the Elves” has yet to be fully discerned by scholars, though it is speculated to be an account of a war between the elves and Sauron, as outlandish as that speculation is.
