Thought I'd hate it; fell in love instead.
I really didn't think I'd like this podcast. I've read the Dark Tower series about half a dozen times, and the premise of this show just didn't make sense to me; what's the point of having a podcast host who hasn't already read the series? Surely the real fun of a Dark Tower podcast is in all of the connections you can make across the series and with other King books, right? But you can't do that if you're running a no-spoilers podcast, so what even is the point? I'm more than happy to report that I was unequivocally wrong. Over the past few months, this has become one of my absolute favorite podcasts. It's easy to praise the analytical depth that Scott and Matt provide, but what I really didn't expect was the sheer joy of reliving this series for the first time through Matt (the host who hasn't read the series before). The moment this podcast turned from “good” to “great” for me was the first episode on The Drawing of the Three, where the story takes a crazy pivot from a traditional gritty western to (spoilers) Roland portaling into Eddie’s world to help him smuggle drugs on an airplane. Having read the series so many times, I had honestly stopped appreciating what an absurd and entertaining twist this is—I already know it’s coming, after all! But listening to Matt’s reaction and his obvious enjoyment brought me straight back to my first reading of the series; as I continue listening week-by-week, I keep thinking about all of the different twists and turns that I can’t wait for the show to get to. This is an incredible podcast, and I can’t recommend it enough whether this is your first journey to the tower or your hundredth.Read full review »

I’m listening to their conversations as I read the Dark Tower series again. I really enjoy hearing from a newbie in addition to a more experienced Constant Reader.

Having read and re-read, listening to a multi time reader and a first timer is rather enjoyable. Though Matt’s hypothesis that the world moved on due to an AI related event is going to keep me up. Certainly worth your time.

I’m incredibly saddened that I did not find this podcast sooner. I began listening after they released Episode 60, but have been devouring their content for weeks now. Even though I was not fortunate enough to read alongside them, the program is still a spectacular way to gain new insights and...Read full review »
