“I love Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and have for many years. I have read through the entire series at least three times over the last 20 years or so and I am a Constant Reader and have been since about age 13. I subscribed and downloaded this podcast a few months ago but couldn’t bring myself to begin listening. Each episode is two+ hours long and I didn’t think I had the time to devote to listening to them. Also I have never listened to any of their other podcasts so I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy their analysis of a series that I hold so dear. I was worried it was going to be too critical and complain about the series - or maybe it would be a technical analysis of the writing and story that would be boring to a non-writer. I finally decided to give it a shot since a lot of podcasts are only doing repeat episodes over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday.
I am VERY glad I finally started listening! I’ve finished “The Gunslinger” episodes and I’m loving reliving the details of the book through Matt & Scott’s discussions. The hosts are fantastic at analyzing the writing without putting off a listener who doesn’t generally think too deeply about that.
Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect from this podcast and I’m very happy with it. It brings me joy to hear about some of my favorite characters and to hear about them from another person’s perspective. It has been great to hear them discuss some of the imagery and allegory that I didn’t catch when reading it, or that I’ve simply forgotten. It is especially fun to hear Matt as a new reader to the story try to figure out what is happening and to hear Scott trying to not give things away - I can’t wait to hear what Matt thinks of the next book!”
