Pretty darn good, but then …
Aging Midwestern Conservative here, heartsick at the possibility that Donald Trump was the eventuality of conservatism all along. Matt and Sam put together 12 episodes that demonstrated that they knew, and had some interesting insights, into conservatism. Then in Episode 13 they retreated, with a third voice, into a snotty-snarky echo chamber, doing an interesting enough show on Norman Podhoretz’s 1965 Book “Making It,” but larding it with dubious asides about racism, sexism, white privilege, and even Donald Trump's supposed unconscious anti-semitism, about which they were almost entirely incoherent. In other words, roughly what I expected from young progressives when I first listened and was surprised by something better than that. I hope they didn't so shoot the wad in twelve episodes that inanity is going to be in heavy rotation from now on.Read full review »

Deeply intelligent and nuanced discussions on contemporary (and historic) movements of Conservatism with an earnest attempt to understand the true believers. Despite being a common affect of the Left, their criticisms of the Right never become too snide or academic, and there’s just enough levity...Read full review »
