“The Last Word On Spurs is quite simply the best all round THFC podcast out there. The fanbase of a major football power like Spurs is naturally a diverse one, and so we see the Tottenham-related pod offerings giving us a veritable rattle-bag from the potty-mouthed larrikens at Fighting Cock for the teenagers to the urbane wit of Mike and Theo at the Spurs Show for the typical glass three-quarters-drained borderline suicidal Spurs adult, and then one-off gems like the ever ebullient Steve at the Hotspurs Podcast, but if there's one indispensible podcast that EVERY Spurs fan should follow, it's THE LAST WORD ON SPURS.
In fact, it's such a well put together podcast I think anyone who's contemplating putting a pod on any subject together should study what these guys do. They are spot on with all the necessary things a good podcast demonstrates: 1. Properly rich content (always spot on with their talking points and fan question selections); 2. Good sound quality and production (clearly well edited); 3. Knowledgable core contributors (Ricky, Jason, Ian, Jon) and occasional contributors who always bring something tangible to the table (not just an opinion spillage but working knowledge from inside the club or transfer market in general); 4. Regular, perfect length, and well-advertised episodes so the fans know WHEN it's out, HOW to access it, and its proper hour's length fits perfectly into a commute to work, a run, a spin out in the motor, whatever shakes your leg; 5. The hosting prowess of Ricky is a stand-out amongst the wider football podosphere as he moves the pod along at a good lick, always has a linking gambit up his sleeve, and keeps a slick, professional feel to the show running through every episode (like us fans with the thought of Dele being nabbed by REAL one day, I fear an outfit like Sky Sports might one day come sniffing for Ricky if the pod gets to a certain audience level!); and finally, 6. I feel it must be said that both Ricky and Jason are incredibly generous with their attendance to fan's comments on social media and always add something positive and insightful to the debates trending around the team and the club.
I'm just a wizened old Spurs nutcase living out in the sticks in bleedin' Japan of all places, but the twice a week shot of aural heroin off of LAST WORD ON SPURS and off-the-cuff interaction with the fellers on social media keeps me properly close to this beautiful, maddening football club in a way that I cannot express my thanks for more.
