“I cringed too many times at the mainstream hit and run ‘history’. I was hoping to hear a podcast using primary sources and works that use only primary source material. They are available and easy to find, but hey let’s just use the Simon & Schuster garbage that Barnes & Noble puts by the front door.
This is rehashed mistake ridden mainstream ‘for dumb cowboys who want their misconceptions reinforced’ “history”.
The grossly diminished, incorrect and untold role of the Cheyenne during these conflicts would be like telling the winning of D-Day and leaving out the battles on the American beaches.
I stopped listening when Red Cloud was running the show at Platte Bridge and it was Sioux warriors alone. Seriously?
I knew then that a version of the Crazy Horse myth at the Hundred in the Hand even worse than what Mari Sandoz created was just around the corner.
Hell, Red Cloud (who no firsthand eyewitness places at the battle) was going to be the sole reason it was won.
Well produced, but history channel level ‘history’. Serious Indian Wars aficionados avoid.”
