Unusually deep dives
This podcast is a refreshing novelty: instead of being content to point out a linguistic curiosity or two, Lexicon Valley goes in for unusually thorough coverage of the constructions and words it focuses on. That's what makes it so appealing to listeners like me with some knowledge and a real interest in English usage. For example, the "from Jim and I" construction has been addressed many, many times, to the extent of explaining why it is (nominally) an error and a hypercorrection, but this podcast is just getting warmed up at that point: it goes on to consider the construction's actual usage in practice, its history, and the reasons why the question of its "correctness" is far murkier than most of us believe. And it does that without becoming dry or overly didactic. Don't dumb it down, folks — please keep up the excellent work!Read full review »

I'm enjoying the show quite a bit. It'd be nice if it branched out to genuine linguistics, beyond just word usage, but even at its current level it's a welcome addition.Read full review »
