On weight and diet: you are sending mixed messages!
First started listening to this podcast for financial tips and information on savings accounts. And then I guess my apple podcasts app had me subscribed and downloaded all subsequent episodes. I’m purging my podcast library now and noticed a few Life Kit episode on diet/weight loss. And then also an episode on intuitive eating... which is what I now practice because diets never work and have on made me worse off (weight cycling, disordered eating habits, binge eating, preoccupation with food). Like what? Where do you actually stand on this, NPR? Pretty hypocritical if you ask me... Stop encouraging people to try all these ridiculous diets or “choose their own diet”. Stop recommending weight loss because people are dissatisfied enough with their bodies and don’t need you to egg them on. And if you’re going to report on intuitive eating, maybe do it more justice by doing your research. I highly recommend Christy Harrison’s Food Psych podcast if anyone wants to know more about what I’m talking about it. Intuitive eating so so much more than listening to hunger/fullness cues or just eating what you want. It spins our focus off of weight loss and onto actually what our bodies want. Anyway, I’m unsubscribing because clearly this “life kit” is just all over the place and may sometimes do more harm/confuse us than do good/help us. I may still listen to an episode occasionally (hence two stars), but that’s about it.

The content here is useful but a commentator uses the word “like” far too much and not only impacts the listenability of the podcast but also is a disappointment for me on NPR standards of effective communication and proper English!

The life kit podcast displays extreme bias, yet covers interesting topics. Most of the advice given is not practical- such as the advice to make better coffee being to “take daily notes on your coffee making process” as if anyone would dedicate a notebook and title it ‘daily coffee log,...Read full review »
