An enlighteningish Podcast! One of the best currently out there
I drive a lot for my job and listen to podcasts many hours a day. Both hosts of this podcast are great to listen to individually on their own podcasts. Cameron Reilly (AKA: The PodFather) is a well known podcaster and co-host of the very popular 'Napoleon' podcast. His personality is outgoing and witty. He is very knowledgable but what he lacks in authentic resources he makes up for with amazing wikipedia search skills on the fly. Ray Harris' own World War 2 podcast is excellent as well. In this series with Reilly, Harris matches wit and sarcasm as well as the knowledge of the subject with his co-host. Ray's humor is dryer and his world views on religion and politics are less obvious than his co-hosts. But what he lacks in personality he makes up for with (I don't know, I'll edit something in here later) This podcast is the perfect introduction to Julius Caesar for people who do not have large abrasive sticks stuffed into various body cavities and know how to take a joke. It's not a dry, read from a book history lesson that will cause you to drive into the other lane on purpose to end the boredom. Rather, this is a great way to learn on the go. The mispronunciations go away after the first few episodes. Also, there is no need to wonder what the hosts really think on any particular subject as the awkward caution of, 'I'm not sure if I should say this or not because I don't want to offend anyone' disappears very quickly. If you're a super-religious Republican that has no tolerance for other people's world views, you may want to turn the volume down after you hear Cameron say, 'Now I don't want to be accused of being a Bush hater but...' or 'This seems to be similar to what we see in modern day Iraq...' If you were a fan of either of the hosts' other podcasts then you will (eventually) love this one as well! The two individual personalities really start to mesh after a few episodes so don't give up after the first few mispronunciations or George Bush slams. Keep listening and you too can learn how to 'Pull a Sulla.' And, if you are a coffee cup mercenary such as myself, you will write a protracted review and give this podcast 5 stars. You may also want to share this podcast on the social medias just for an opportunity to possibly be in the running for the chance to potentially be considered to maybe win a coffee mug... I know you're reading this review and thinking, 'Wow, that's long!' Well, your hosts would reply, 'Said your mom!' That's the kind of classiness that I enjoy listening to and dammit, I've learned and laughed more with this podcast than most historical podcasts out there. Don't you worry about them just reading off of a script. It's pretty obvious that there is no script, or preparation for that matter. But that's what makes it fun, the hosts are forced to rely on their personalities and knowledge of the subject to carry the show on for an hour. What should be a train wreck actually works pretty dammed well and I always look forward to the next episode!Read full review »

More reviews of Life Of Caesar
Two intelligent, well-informed guys doing a patchy, poorly-produced historical podcast. For example, in the first instalment they talk at length about Caesar's relationship to Sulla, without providing any background on who Sulla was. It's an insiders' conversation between two people...Read full review »

A lot of reviews of this podcast ask for it to be more dry. I don't know why they would. This podcast is fun. Thats the point. Cam is good at keeping things light. I would like to hear from other experts, but you know, not everyone wants to spend a bunch of time talking about caesar. Of course...Read full review »
