Helping victims become survivors
I’m an average listener of this kind of content - I discovered my (ex)spouse had many narcissistic traits and I was experiencing textbook narcissistic abuse. I began researching the topic to learn as much as I can and there are some wonderful sources of information out there. However, I had gained a very clear picture of his behavior, patterns and how he fit into the repeating cycle we’ve been stuck in for years - but I couldn’t understand how I fit in. Most of these podcasts, YouTube channels, and websites hyper focus on identifying a narcissist, customary behaviors, and breakdowns of their abuse. Not many focus on the victim’s involvement - because they play a very significant and underestimated role in the entire course of the abuse. IMHO, they absolve all accountability from the victims which can convince them to remain in a vulnerable state, believing this was not their fault and it happened “to” them. I was familiar with the term “codependent” but never understood the spectrum of it’s influence in our behaviors and how it manifests in our relationships. The first time I listened to Lisa define codependency, I cried my eyes out. Finally I had the missing puzzle pieces of my role and my involvement. I’m not suggesting the victims are accountable for suffering their abuse, but it is a perfect storm that we help create, fuel and empower. Lisa not only understands this aspect of narcissistic abuse, but incorporates it into her guidance in a relatable and realistic manner. This podcast has content you might not want to hear, but what you *need* to hear. I think many victims of narcabuse become stuck in a mindset that allows them to avoid any responsibility for what they have experienced. Identifying that you’re a victim of narcissistic abuse is only the first step, exploring WHY you were susceptible to these forms of manipulation is the next step. Lisa will help you transition from victim to survivor. Thank you so much for your work Lisa. I believe everything happens for a reason and your suffering has helped me and so many others find validation in our own. Through awareness and education, you’re saving lives and relieving pain. Namaste!
