Interesting but victim to woke revisionism
I really enjoy Mafia. While it has tended to make being a gangster glamorous, they also do highlight the violence and corruption. Not so with the most recent episodes on Stephanie St. Clair. They recruited several gender and racial studies professors to portray St. Clair as a champion of civil and gender rights, despite her actual role as a gangster running an illegal gambling operation. While they claim it is a victimless crime they minimize St. Clair’s efforts to corrupt authorities and her use of violence to defend her territory. The experts claim the violence she employed was to protect her community from white gangsters, and try to claim she was some kind of civil rights leader as a result. They do this while even portraying her as comparable to real leaders like Thurgood Marshall and W.E.B. Dubois who lived in the same building. Come on Mafia, do the right thing. Don’t promote the propaganda. Just because Italian Mafia leaders try to clad their activities as defending Italians from racism doesn’t mean they actually are. You’ve recognized this in past episodes. Stephanie St. Clair is no different. She was a violent criminal, not a civil rights hero. Find some real experts who understand that, not a bunch of critical studies pseudo experts.

I’m obsessed with the American Mafia & this show is very knowledgeable. My only issue is with the poor editing. Sometimes the narrator cuts off the taped interviews and the commercials pop up all of a sudden.
