The young princes complete their training and come back to Hastinapur and get a grand welcome. As they display their feats, Vasusena arrives to the scene and challanges Arjun. He is not allowed to, as per rules only a prince can challange a prince. Hearing this Duryodhana makes Vasusena the King of Anga and announces him as his friend and equal. Vasusena is moved by the gesture and takes an oath to be forever loyal to his new best friend.

Acharya Drona narrates his story of friendship turned into animosity with King Drupada and asks his students to capture the King. Pandavas successfully do so. Drona lets King Drupada leave with half his kingdom and Drupada swears revenge for his insult by Drona and has a yagna conducted. From the sacrificial fire, Dristadyumna is born is with the sole purpose in life to kill Drona. But along with Dristadyumna walks out Draupadi, his sister, from the fire.

Vasusena lies that he is a son of a Brahmin to enter Sage Parashuram’s school where he learns the science of invoking celestial weapons like the dreaded Brahmastra. But when Parashuram finds out about the lie, he curses Vasusena that he will forget how to invoke the weapon, at the time when he will need it the most, and kicks him out of his school.

Amba, along with her sisters and against her wishes is “won” by Bheeshma in the Viryashulka arranged by Amba’s father, The King of Kashi. Amba faces rejection at the hands of Bheeshma and King Shalva and blames Bheeshma for her misfortune.
