Great content, perhaps not the best format for Mr. White
This is a fine podcast, and a lot of people (in fact, most people, I'd guess) are going to like it. There is no questioning the intelligence behind the telling of the stories in each episode, and Mr. White & team have done a great job on that. I especially enjoyed the brief takeaways towards the end of the episodes. That said, personally, I found it overproduced and (sorry!) a touch boring. I think a lot of folks will enjoy the musical interludes, etc, but it adds considerable fluff and length. I found myself fast forwarding through the intro trying to get to the point. I commend the idea of trying to use voice actors for individual parts, but I found it distracting, and it would have been a much easier listen if Mr. White had simply summarized or quoted the pertinant text. The context shifts and numerous voices made it harder to focus on the content of what was being said, at least to me. It's one thing to hear from a primary source, but given the source's unavailability, I'm not sure this is the best answer. Perhaps some voice actors, but fewer overall, would have been better. I think the most unfortunate part of this is I would love to hear Mr. White in more of a live sense, which is what I was expecting to hear. Mr. White is excellent live -- one doesn't get to be that good of an attorney and spaeker without the ability to think quickly on one's feet -- but that is lost to the script, and indeed the main speaker's role in this podcast could have been read by just about anyone. Considering how well Mr. White can do in debate form, and how interesting that would be to listen to, I found the choice to have an episode format where Mr. White essentially reads one of his blog posts but with many audio distractions to be a bit odd. Judging by the other numerous, well-deserved reviews, I am certainly in the minority, but I just find the end result overproduced and too difficult to get through. I want to like it, but I'm not going to be a listener in this format.Read full review »

More reviews of Make No Law
Production is quite good. Form factor is concise and interesting. Ken does a great job of explaining complex legal issues in terms anyone can understand.

Ken is nothing short of a podcast wizard! He knows exactly how to describe a case in a way that interests lawyers and non-lawyers alike. He gives all the right details and all the right historical context. The only criticism I have is that it doesn’t come out every week of the year. For the...Read full review »
