Rufus on Lord Melbourne in Victoria
I loved hearing Rufus talk about his part on Victoria and the relationship that Lord Melbourne had with the young Queen Victoria. As many others have done, I too wished history could be have been rewritten so that he and the Queen could have stayed together. Rufus played him as a very wise and caring man ... someone who always took care to protect Victoria both professionally as her prime minister and also protect her heart, even from caring too much about him (no matter how much he might have appreciated her feelings for him or wanted to return them). Everytime Rufus left the onscreen, I found myself longing for his next scene. Guess that proves the old show biz adage - "Leave 'em wanting more!" Ha! I've loved Rufus' work ever since I was first overwhelmed by his performance in the Renaissance romance, "Dangerous Beauty" in 1998 in which he played a lovable young rogue who grows into a man willing to sacrifice himself for the woman he loved. That film literally changed my life but that's another long story. The beautiful caring and friendship he expressed in Victoria for that main character reminded me of the great love he shared with the 16th century Italian courtesan poet, Veronica Franco in D. B. After that film, I went back and watched or acquired most all of Rufus' films. I found him to be an actor who can play all genres equally well and never allows himself to get pigeon-holed by typecasting. He's worked in every style from historical dramas (King Charles) to muscular blockbuster/Greek mythology (Hercules) to mystified heroes (Dark City),villians (Man in the High Tower) and many other roles. In the last two decades, he has only improved as an actor and I always enjoy seeing his new portrayals. Masterpiece / PBS, let the response he's gotten from people/women all around the world (regarding his performance in Victoria) convince you, we want MORE from Rufus Sewell. There are many great parts out there that we'd love to see him in on Masterpiece so directors/producers, please cast him in your projects. He could do wonders with Dorian Grey or Healthcliff, hmmm ... what do you think?! And convince to do a long term series (a la Downtown A.) so we can enjoy his work for more than 5 weeks. Thanks, I love all your shows!Read full review »

Bringing Austen’s story to life couldn’t have been done any better. The characters (actors) costumes, sets are so inspiring...Read full review »
