“This is such a fun podcast, it makes me want to start my own Mean Book Club in my city so I can be apart of the discussion. The Mean Book chicks and their guests are smart and funny and it’s cool too that they have dissenting opinions on bad books. So you get a true back and forth. Which I love. Was I’m only giving it 3 stars though bc it’s just annoying how they make a deliberate point of inserting their politics into every single book and looking for political themes in nonpolitical books. Ugggghh. If I wanted to hear political discussion there are 3,000 actual political outlets that I could watch. If I come to a BOOK club podcast it’s because I want to hear about BOOKS. This is where I go to get A BREAK from all of the politics and ugliness in the world and to just unwind occasionally.
I mean, I’ll be loving a “Mean Book Club” show and then out of no where they start to arbitrarily and capriciously insert their politics into the book discussion and it makes me want to vomit. I don’t care if it’s stuff I agree with or not. This isn’t the place for the politics.
So yeah… mixed feelings about the show. I mostly really enjoy the show when they stick to the books. For now, I will still be listening because it’s fun book discussion. We’ll see how much more of the politics I can stomach if I continue listening or not. If I’m lucky, maybe they’ll take heed and stick to the books in the future and I can continue listening for a long time.”
