I do have reader friends, but we have very different opinions and tastes and it gets delicate. Mean Book Club fulfills my need to complain about BAD BOOKS THAT ARE BAD. I know it sounds crazy to literally listen to every episode like 3x, but these ladies crack me up and their dynamics are so...Read full review »

Found this podcast a few months ago and I have been binging it. I’m so happy that it’s still going on, but I’m so sad I don’t have more current episodes. I love it so much and I often laugh out loud. I listen to podcasts while lifting weights but I laugh too much during this one to do so. It’s...Read full review »

With a lot of editing! Hard to listen to the varying audio quality and long winded tangents. I’d love to hear a tightened version that summarises the conversation in 40 mins.

This is one of the few podcasts that I actually laugh out loud at the hosts jokes. My children think I’m going crazy. But it’s great, and now I’ve started reading the books along with them so it’s fun.

Always fun!! I love this podcast because it’s like being part of a book club without actually being a part of a book club 🙃

Because I’m the smart one in my friend group, I’m the only one who reads (aka listens to) the literary masterpieces of the NYT bestseller list. But this begs the question, what’s the point of reading if you have to do it alone? Well I don’t have to anymore, thanks to the parasocial relationships...Read full review »

I love it. I actually laugh out loud occasionally while listening. I find their dialogue to be pretty witty, because you have to be keen to have such sharp and quick comebacks, or wildly absurd takes on a book. Judging by some of the reviews here, methinks there are some people who don’t quite...Read full review »

This podcast is so cathartic as a librarian because I have to deal with people singing the praises of authors like John Grisham or Dan Brown or Danielle Steel. Every. Single. Day. This is a healthy way for me to make fun of those library patrons and the books they love. Thanks for that.

I listen to a lot of podcasts and this one is by far my fave. Catch me loling on the elliptical

Hilarious discussion, great improv, excellent “wine pairings.” Each host brings something unique to the table. Feels like I’m listening to my (much funnier) friends.

I can’t understand the older review of this podcast. Apparently, when smart, funny and accomplished women get together to snark, some people feel threatened 🤷 I’ve really enjoyed the episodes I’ve listened to so far, found the hosts funny and insightful and will definitely be following more of...Read full review »

I want to like this show I love the premise and some of the points made about writing but the hosts are intentionally antagonistic towards one another and put on a blinding superiority complex to seem “meaner”. The re-enactments are embarrassing and cringe… in total I just want them to shut up...Read full review »

Meh
Not super funny. Good premise but not a lot of effort and jokes punch down. I think if there were more structure, a synopsis with more informed analysis and jokes along the way

This is such a fun podcast, it makes me want to start my own Mean Book Club in my city so I can be apart of the discussion. The Mean Book chicks and their guests are smart and funny and it’s cool too that they have dissenting opinions on bad books. So you get a true back and forth. Which I love....Read full review »

Y’all put in the work to be mean, I say that in the best way possible. I might try to finish books I don’t like so I feel better about dissing them.

Throughout this episode the hosts made it repeatedly clear that they lack any serious background knowledge on Jack Kerouac’s background, beliefs, and intent. They’re lack of context only made it worse and very hard to listen to. I can understand making jokes based on truths but to completely...Read full review »

I love this podcast! My day gets instantly better when I see a new episode is up! There’s plenty of good book podcasts out there, but sometimes all you want to do is listen to other people rip apart a book that you hated as well.

I think I came across this pod after a few months ago reading Where the Crawdads Sing and needing my frustration reciprocated. This was it, and too funny. Sometimes I want to listen to episodes without having even read the book just for laughs. Also Sarah sounds..exactly like Jennifer Lawrence…?
ALexys11 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/14/22
Everyone is just kind of insecurely laughing through their opinion? It’s kind of weird. I’ve only listened to 2 episodes but no one sounds very genuine or like they are actually friends. The dynamic and energy is super strange. I was listening to the “where the crawdads sing” episode and the one...Read full review »

One of my favorite podcasts! It’s great vibes, a lot of fun and very funny. I’ve been binging for the last few weeks. Episodes on self-help books and memoirs are my favorite. Can’t wait for new episodes!

If I remember right, I was first pointed to this podcast when Tomefoolery went on indefinite hiatus. It’s got the same “comedians bantering over awful books” energy I needed to keep in my life, but this show’s remit of only going after New York Times bestsellers means they don’t get quite as many...Read full review »

I tried listening to the episode covering Nine Perfect Strangers. The criticism was largely rooted in the fact that there wasn’t enough plot or that the author didn’t just tell the readers what was happening. Given that the book was character-driven suspense, it makes me think that (most of) the...Read full review »

Four women who all sound alike and, more often than not, think alike on everything but the most mundane of subjects, keeps this podcast from doing anything interesting. This podcast is perfect. I adore these gals. They're hilarious, and anyone who disagrees is wrong and, let's be real, probably sexist. This podcast is hilarious. Every time I listen, I feel like I’m hanging out with my friends. I crack up every single time I listen. My favorite has to be Sabrina, because she always sticks up for the books I like 😂. I highly recommend this podcast to anybody who loves a good cast of characters.

Love the group. Lots of smart personalities eviscerate terrible best sellers. Quick comments, funny insights, relatable sarcasm. I also have a low key crush on Clara. Pandemic must have.

This show is basically people who barely graduated high school making fun of books. If you’re into that, great. But this isn’t for the serious intellect.

These gals are hysterical. Their banter and chemistry with one another is super unique. That’s difficult to find with podcasts, especially with more than 2 hosts. I’m a HUGE fan of the podcast, especially as a trucker since I’m always on the road. And I figured out a way to make it even better! Hysterical reviews of horrible books. It’s even better when you’ve read the book with the cast. Love this podcast and look forward to it every week!

I listened to one show and it took 17 minutes to get to the book, and they kept drifting away from it. It’s mostly lame witticisms.
