Great overall, avoid personal bias without presenting evidence
I think 95% of the material in these reviews is great, concise, relevant and eloquently covered. Way to go Andrew. As some constructive feedback, I do think there is a significant amount of unfounded recommendations that are portrayed in these presentations as fact or standards of care. That can be dangerous. In the face of a sea of information that no one of us could ever fully research, a lot of what we know, learn and apply as healthcare providers is based on what we learn from our educators and our peers, namely, each other. We need to take that responsibility seriously and as such, I believe it is deleterious to present information on contentious topics without the background knowledge or solid evidence to back it up. I've noticed examples of this on more than a few of these podcasts. In one such example, the narrator states that he believes diabetics, wholesale, should avoid all fruit - regardless of glycemic index. That is an extremely contentious issue with potentially significant, negative ramifications for our patients' long term health as antioxidants in fruit are known to be powerful anti carcinogens and contain fiber which lowers cholesterol, blunts the glycemic response is correlated with lower risk of diabetes, heart disease and many types of cancer (Kneller 1992, Campbell various...were I at home I could provide more..). At any rate, I don't claim to be an expert on this or know the one correct answer but I do think contentious issues such as this are no place for stating personal opinions as fact without evidence. Or as Hippocrates said "to know is science, to believe one knows is ignorance." Since your aim is to provide board review I might leave these issues out, cite data or make it clear(er) that they are your opinions. Any way, like I said 95% awesome and keep them coming. The feedback is meant to be constructive/positive and i hope it is of use. It's something we could all do better at to improve our knowledge and skills. Keep up the good work.Read full review »
