“Mentors on the Mic is a much-needed, welcome breath of fresh air in the chaotic, cacophonous podcast universe in general, and the entertainment industry-focused podcast niche in particular. Its clear value-add lies in the deft subtleties of its hostess, Michelle Simone Miller. Michelle takes the listener behind the camera, casting, and curtain, while remaining not an incidental bystander to the craft and rigors of the performing arts, but a seasoned veteran in her own right, and therefore a capable speaker on all subjects discussed. Yet, unlike many other creators, Michelle holds ample space for her guests, focusing the spotlight on their voices, allowing their narratives to take center stage, no puns intended. She asks with a willing curiosity, then listens with focused intent. Her introductions, questions, segues, and transitions are graceful and nimble, with the incision of a surgeon, and the precision of a sculptor. Michelle's voice alone commands a polished sonority, and delightful intonation worth hearing with eager ears, yet--and here is where she makes her mark by crossing the indelible line distinguishing her professionalism amongst amateurs--Michelle never makes it about Michelle: hers is a low-ego, high-EQ journalism, the stuff of golden eras of yore and broadcast nostalgia of lore. It is not lost upon even the briefest of impressions: this podcast was borne of the deepest conviction, gratitude, integrity, love, and respect for its listeners, guests, and topics. Each episode is its own tapestry of threads woven with candor, delight, and intrigue. Every interview is informative and insightful, engaging and engrossing. Listeners leave with novel perspectives gleaned and original introspections shared. My favorite episode featured Marta Kauffman, creator and showrunner of "Friends", arguably the greatest situational comedy of modern television, if not all-time. Please do yourself a favor, set aside some time, and give this podcast an earnest, attentive listen. I promise you: you will see, hear, sense, and otherwise appreciate entertainment, of any kind, much differently, and more holistically afterwards. I wholeheartedly recommend Mentors on the Mic without reservation. Brava, Michelle, bravissima!”Read full review »
