“I am Alicia’s youngest brother. Maybe her favorite brother. :) I have been trying to coerce Mike and Alicia to do this podcast for several years, and it has been a joy to watch them give it a go. It has been wonderful!
As a young Catholic priest in Denver, I meet so many young families who come to me with questions about raising a family, raising toddlers, teenagers, you name it. My response is usually accompanied by a disclaimer: “Ok, you know that I’m a 30 year old celibate, right?” And then, what little advice I may offer is usually taken from observations from my own family, especially from conversations with Mike and Alicia. What an asset for me as a priest to be able point families to this great resource. It is a tremendous blessing, and I have already received considerable feedback, all positive.
They cover topics that are important and inescapable for most families, from what to do when your kids fight, to how to handle raising teenagers, to dealing with your kids at mass, and much more. Speaking from their experience, their advice is always practical, yet rooted deeply in Christian truth.
Mike and Alicia are articulate, fun, insightful, and, most importantly, deeply in love with the Lord. They understand the Church’s teachings on marriage and family life in a particular, and they give those teachings flesh and bones in the witness of their own family. The JOY, goodness, and beauty of the their family life (not without the cross, mind you) is a testament that the Church’s teachings on marriage and family are not “rules” imposed from without that restrict our freedom, but rather, when embraced with generosity and with Christ at the center, are guiding principles of living family life to the full! In short, to raise a Catholic family is difficult…but it’s worth it!”
