Michael and Us -- a worthy addition of the 'dirtbag left' genre
Since the emergence of Chapo Trap House, the 'dirtbag left' podcast genre -- irreverent, surprisingly insightful, leftwing commentary series made by and for disenchanted millenials -- there have emerged plenty of imatators but few worthy successors. Michael and Us succeeds because it has found its own niche, offering a cooler, less-enraged style of 'dirtbag left politics' which only serves to amplyfy the hosts' unrelenting cynicism and wit as the latest news filters in week by week or whichever movie/television show they happen to be discussing and parsing through with wry commentary. This podcast delivers incisive cultural commentary that examines the current political moment by viewing it as the expression of social trends that have been developing since the early 20th century. It is also quite funny.
