Affordable, Autonomous, On Demand is a given!
Need to move off the constant "equity" buzzword discussion ( which seems to halt real solution thinking & discourse) and realize that No Social class group finds it appealing to share a ride on a foul smelling, dirty, late arriving bus, subway, regional train or auto which double serves as a performance platform for criminals, and people that are in need of housing and healthcare. Everyone wants an affordable, autonomous, on demand and safe way to be mobile. In addition the discussions on the podcast seem to be centered on starting from scratch in a futuristic utopian smart city environment. However, what about fixing what we have first. Some possibilities: 1) dense cities such as NYC need to lift their pedestrian, scooter and bike traffic to a 3 or 4 dimensional solution. Create a highline ribbon path throughout the city and move that use off ground to the air paths. The current highline refurbished and old elevated rail spur and it is extremely popular and life affirming pedestrian pathway 2) create on demand transport for all seniors for day and nightime access to enjoy the activities & continue to be able to contribute to their communities 3) regional railroads & light rail need more north/ south and east/ west rail lines that can intersect and connect disparate neighborhoods in order to bring people closer to work, learning and shopping hubs 4) create safer subways and more reliable current mass transit - cameras, video, audio, clear signage, connectivity and payment options 5) encourage businesses that pay real living wages to bring manufacturing & research closer to the workforce and begin investing again in America 6) smaller regional airports are underserving their communities and need to be tied in to commerce and shipping by becoming connective transport hubs 7) create drone paths to deliver products closer to users 8) create transportation, commerce and housing focused research and education centers of excellence that will help develop solutions to current and future mobility solutions.
