Seven-course dinner for the mind
Most history podcasts tend to fall into one of two categories: scatterings of random trivia that amuse yet do not fully illuminate ~ or the dry-as-dust lecture series that remind us why, as students, we tended to doze off in history class more than any other. My History Can Beat Up Your Politics offers up all the tasty morsels ~ but within the context of a meal. Here you get a broader (and more profound) vision of history: a discussion of today's political issues within the much fuller framework of our nation's two-hundred-plus year history: linking todays' players with historical personages and events from decades ~ or even centuries past ~ all with an effortlessness that only comes from the greatest of minds. This is the history I wish I had learned in school. Thanks to Mr. Carlson ~ we all have a second chance to do so.Read full review »

He does a great job of explaining current events by drawing on history. Not the sort of commentary you can find anywhere else, certainly not on cable TV. I look forward to every episode.
