5* work by a superb team of The Economist
Arkady Ostrovsky and his team have done a really good job. Thanks! A brilliant illustration showing us what Russia’s educated MINORITY (the “intelligentsia” of Moscow, SpB, Nizhnyi, Ye-burg, the so called 20%) thinks. It also tells us how during the last decades this intelligensia has “lost” their country: the “European” Russians were in power for at least 15 years during the 90s and 00s, but they have utterly failed to stop the rise and rise of Ruscism (or Rashism, Russian fascism). This podcast, unfortunately, fails to show us what Russia’s MAJORITY thinks in 2023? Who are these 70-80 percent, infected with Ruscism, with this noxious ideology of military expansionism, imperialist chauvinism and fascist “special civilisational mission”? Here in the West we all are guilty of wishful thinking too. For too long we convinced ourselves that this educated minority of Moscow based intellectuals is the TRUE face of Russia. Tragically, they aren’t. The true face of Russia is way more ugly. We can see the glimpses of it in Bucha, Irpyn, Mariupol, in Aleppo and Grozny.

From The Economist, I expected a news-oriented podcast but Arkadiy and his colleagues have created something that is both informative and beautifully poetic. Really amazing.
