“I gave 5 stars. I’m a massive fan of Robin Pierson’s History of Byzantium podcast and I don’t think anyone can beat his Byzantium podcast content, but this one comes close. Or rather, they're a different enough style that they wonderfully compliment each other. I really enjoy both of them.
I appreciate that the host, Nick, is an academic who’s written books and studied primary sources as his career. You can tell.
This pod is a slightly quicker pace than History of Byzantium, but at the same time Nick gives you everything you need to know, and more, in a very easy to digest and entertaining manner.
I highly recommend this pod if you’re a fan of Byzantium. For me, it’s come as a really nice addition to the History of Byzantium during a VERY complex time in the empire’s history (the pod covers the buildup to Manzikert, its aftermath, and the crusades; it also goes onto finish the story of Byzantium, but I’m not that far yet).”Read full review »
