OK, sure, we can all agree Nintendo did it better in the end, but there was a time there when being a Nintendo kid was tough thanks to the genius marketing and 2-year head-start SEGA had in the 16-bit gaming space. The SEGA Genesis was a really excellent console, and put up a valiant fight against the Super NES during the darkest days of the console wars of the early 1990s. It had a CD-ROM! It had an expansion so you could play 32-bit games! But perhaps most importantly, it had a plucky blue fellow by the name of Sonic.
