“Well done, but yet again they are using race and slavery to justify or explain bad acts. It’s a tired tactic, and offensive to me as a black woman honestly. Context matters, but the idea that black people can do no wrong or should be excused for their crimes because, slavery, is preposterous. We need to start looking at people as human beings. Not black or white or otherwise. Wrong is wrong, no matter what color you are, and no matter what your ancestors may have endured. I also believe that is this story had been flipped, if the owners of this crematorium had been white, in a predominately black community, this entire story would have been told and framed in a COMPLETELY different way…at the end of the day though, I agree with Sheila. Forgiveness is important, and part of being a a Christian. We all make mistakes in life, we all sin, we all do wrong, ALL OF US. Holding on to anger and hatred is not the way. It’s why we are so divided today. Hatred is poison. We should all forgive.”
