“This is a podcast for film fans from three film fans. Luckily, they're not just a trio of incompetent nerds: they actually know what they're talking about. They all seem to have seen enough film to be able to draw a, mostly unbiased review with a clear judgement and most important, taking each film individually and looking at it within the boundaries of its genre: just because a film is a horror film, or one for kids, it doesn't mean that it's inferior to let's say an Oscar nominee one.
I've started listening to their "back to the future" retrospective, and right from the start I knew I wasn't dealing wit freshmen.
Their intro montage was so incredibly well crafted and straight away I was struck by their level of energy and enthusiasm.
Their conversation is always on topic, interesting, fun and there's never a dull moment...
I listen to quite a few movie podcasts and this one in its simplicity is one the best. It clearly shows that the whole thing is not really improvised on the spot, but actually well researched and planned.
Their knowledge of movies is pretty comprehensive, though never too showy or annoying. They can talk about acting, directing, script, camera angles, special effects and CGI, but always in a coherent and simple way and... with a twinkle in the eye.
You may agree or disagree with some of their reviews (in fact to be honest I didn't think Back to the future part 2 was as bad as they painted it), they sometimes don't even seem to agree with one another and that's all part of the fun I guess. At least they're honest and yet never rude just for the sake of it.
I've already listened to most of their back catalogue and I'm slowly running out of them, so I just hope they'll carry on recording these podcasts because they really help me through the day, on my way to and from work.”Read full review »
