Part of the problem
The thesis that the internet has made things worse seems reasonable enough, and I'd argue that journalism has been the biggest victim in the rise of the attention economy -- people don't want to sit down to a 5-part investigative series anymore, and aside from the NYT/WaPo (who are obsessed with identity politics), newspapers don't have the resources to launch investigative journalism. So when the first podcast I downloaded featured an overexposed professional opinionator instead of a journalist (Ezra Klein), it's clear this is just another podcast that soothes priors and sells ads.Read full review »

I think this is the best episode. Beutler voices the questions I have running on a loop in my head and I’m grateful he asked them. Favreau has good points as well.
