When it's good, it's awesome! However, Sturgeon's law is in effect for some of the game systems.
This podcast has been a fantastic find since my wife discovered one of their cards on her game table at Gencon this year. It has really made my commute an enjoyable one. For someone who enjoys the narrative that games can create, this podcast is fantastic (James is a narrative first sort of GM). If what you want is a tactical wargame simulation style RPG podcast, then this isn't for you. But if you want some hilarious antics from some truly clever players, then I can't recommend this enough. However, be aware that Sturgeon's Law (90% of everything is crud) is still in effect with many of the game systems they feature. Seriously...who thought Everyone is John, which is a competitive tabletop RPG where everyone is fighting for control of the narrative, was a solid system idea? The good new is that for every terrible system they feature (like Everyone is John, or FFG's Star Wars), they also feature some terrific systems (like Feng Shui or Deadlands: Noir) so you can probably find some real gems you haven't tried before. Weakness of some systems aside, the podcast is still fantastic, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes roleplaying games.Read full review »

This is seriously a great podcast and very instructional about how to play RPGs without ever becoming boring. The Edge of the Empire episodes were what made me a subscriber! Keep up the fantastic work, James and Co.!
