vibrates between loneliness and desperate excitement
There’s a raw innocence to Ostium which continues throughout the first four seasons and never loses its effectiveness. The atmosphere vibrates between the loneliness of an early 90s PC adventure and the desperate cosmological terror of a new wave science fiction novel. In places it is so good you can almost feel the doors opening up around you. The story is extremely well paced and the acting always feels just about right, even when it sometimes also feels a bit strained. I don’t think they’re going for dramatic accuracy! The only real negative was the constant swearing from Monica which sounded contrived and pointless, and went on interminably. At one point I almost stopped listening because I found it so irritating, but I’m glad I persevered - she does mellow out somewhat in season 4. Oh, and the River Thames in London is pronounced “Temms”, not “Tames” :)

The plot is great. The characters are great. I just love the way everything ties together. The past, the present, and even the future. I can’t wait for new episodes!
