The "Hillary Clinton" of newscasts
While I have the utmost respect for Kwame Holman and Ray Suarez as journalists, their news reports and interviews, respectively, are just stellar, and all the other personnel are first rate as well, there is one tragic flaw in this gem for me. They are too beholden to corporate interests, for one, as a political "order" which defines the general parameter of their examinations; and, they seem to have a particular penchant for giving voice to the neocon movement in this land. Since the Intefada of 2000, for example, this program has repeatedly trotted out every American Likudnik from the American Enterprise Institute and elsewhere (Martin Indyk, etc...) to analyze the Middle East, promoting and perpetuating the neocon mythology. Have you EVER seen a Palestinian given a chance to put forward the arguments of the Palestinian people in this conflict? The late Edward Said, before his death? No. Fuad Ajami is a token Arab lapdog to the neocons; he is invited occasionally. I don't know if the Newshour is bought by neoconservative interests, or are intimidated by them. Let us not deceive ourselves into believing that the Newshour is an impartial examiner of certain inconvenient truths, let alone an organ for progressive politics, even in part. More reviews of PBS News Hour - Segments
I wish they would just give us the whole program in one podcast. The segments are often out of order and missing relevant intros. That being said, they do a fabulous job on discussing issues objectively. Shields and Brooks are must-listen.
