I heard about this podcast 1-1/2 years ago but just now binged it (January 2024). It kept me hooked to the “twisting end.” I had a hard time following the French names as I don’t know any French, but I did some internet searching to help me better understand the various relationships between...Read full review »

Loved the show and looking to more (I hope) can never imagine what it’s like figuring out your friend is something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than you thought, and you’re just sat there wondering.

Episode 2 hasn’t been working for the last day - I was very interested but I’ve done everything and it always tells me it’s unavailable.

Boring and drones on. I have repeated episode multiple times to see if I follow as feels like I’m missing something.

More people need to listen to this. This is great reporting, solid leads, solid explainations of peoples motives and a fair shake for everyone involved, self reflection included. Nicely done!!

I stopped listening halfway through episode 2. Seems like a great story, but the way it’s told, I could not engage with it. Might have something to do with the characters not being introduced in a personal way, so I felt less compassionate. It become a big jumble if names and places.

Do you ever feel like the news is just announcing the upcoming story’s? I would like them to get the point. Time management is key sounds like they are trying to stretch the story. I appreciate the research but hard to follow.

Excellently crafted take, weaving a hard-luck story into the triumph of guts and genius—grifter-style. International intrigue, courtroom drama and clever and relentless journalism create a riveting podcast that makes you think. Bravo!

Sadly this hasn’t lived up to its promise or premise. Surely a character like Gilbert Chikli is a gift, but this podcast has left me bored. There’s something in the telling of the story that leaves me wanting. Maybe the plotting & structure? Or maybe Chikli himself is the turn off: it’s hard...Read full review »

Masterfully narrated and researched. The final episode draws so many threads disseminated throughout the podcast together and really invites you to reflect on broader questions like the fickleness of storytelling and the modern day appetite for stories about scams Bravo! I like this podcast and the story telling. But I pay for Wondery Plus or Prime or whatever and Episode 8 will not play. Would like to find out what happened!

Fantastic and riveting. I loved the “catch me of you can” twists and charming turns. Wow what a story. This Gilbert guy is hilarious and annoyingly good at what he does. Highly recommended this series. You won’t regret it.

I’m really surprised by all the negative comments about the narration, I love Evan’s voice and find it so easy and entertaining to listen to. I believe in his investment in the story which makes me more invested. Really enjoyable listen.

It would be a great podcast if the creators wouldn’t try to stretch it out so long and lose the audience in some random wine cellars..
Chavrifybjeanfh via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/14/22
Persona is utterly engrossing. Deeply reported, deftly told, it’s one of the very best reported podcasts I’ve heard. A must-listen.
whereisted via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/13/22
Given podcasts are by nature not visual, you would think the narration would be really important. He sounds as others have said detached and bored Also the weird rising intonation thing is so irritating. Just OK, I wouldnt waste your time
geebee 12 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/12/22
I really enjoyed this podcast and the narrator’s approach to storytelling. This was a brand new subject for me, so I found it fascinating. Great theme song too.
ATLmama via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/12/22
The ponderous, intrusive music really detracts from a podcast that would otherwise have rated more highly.
LizAnne S via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 07/11/22

There is something there of interest, but the execution is off. The narrator seems completely detatched from the topic and i find myself wondering why im bothering to even listen
rbslsna via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/10/22
Great research and story, but the podcast is a little hard to follow. Some parts of the story are described in detail, over others is being quickly glossed over when more detailed story-telling is needed to understand whats happening. I appreciate the Wondery-style which puts the story and people...Read full review »

Eating up this documentary program. Excellently reported, written and delivered. I even became a subscriber so I wouldn’t have to wait for the episodes. However, ep 7 — The Voice — won’t play.
